Las pulgas son parásitos que se alimentan de la sangre de nuestros animales y pueden

picar también al hombre.

Estas pequeñas e indeseables criaturas suelen ser difíciles de eliminar debido a su asombrosa capacidad de reproducción y de supervivencia, ya que pueden vivir en el medio ambiente (camas, sofás, alfombras, mantas, etc.), incluso sin huésped, durante muchos meses.

El ciclo de vida de estos parásitos se divide en cuatro etapas: huevo, larva, pupa y adulta. Considerando que las pulgas pueden depositar 50 huevos al día, ¿Te puedes imaginar la cantidad de huevos que las hembras ponen a lo largo de su vida?

Además de causar picor e irritación de la piel, las pulgas pueden transmitir enfermedades a tu mascota, entre ellas, infecciones causadas por tenias, dermatitis alérgica por picadura de pulgas (DAPP), enfermedad del arañazo del gato, anemia, etc.

Con el aumento de las temperaturas y la llegada de los días más largos, llegan también algunos peligros propios de la temporada, tales como la Procesionaria del Pino. 🐛

Las Procesionarias del Pino se tratan de orugas que se mueven en procesión (de ahí su nombre) y son conocidas por su cuerpo cubierto de largos pelos urticantes, que liberan una toxina que desencadena fuertes reacciones alérgicas. Los perros son los principales afectados ya que son los más juguetones y les gusta olfatear todo. Las lesiones provocadas por estas orugas dependerán de la parte del cuerpo que haya entrado en contacto con los pelos de estos insectos.

Los síntomas de intoxicación más comunes son:

➡ Hipersalivación

➡ Inflamación de los labios, boca y cabeza

➡ Lesiones en la mucosa oral

➡ Intenso picor y agitación

➡ Dificultad respiratoria

➡ Vómitos

With the weather getting warmer, and the days longer, this is the perfect opportunity to remind owners of an important seasonal hazard to our pets. 🐛

Pine processionary caterpillars are especially worthy of our attention, given that their body is covered in urticating hairs that can cause severe allergic reactions to pets and people alike. This time of the year, the caterpillars leave their nests on Pine trees in the procession for which the species is known to burrow underground. As curious animals, dogs may be tempted to play with them or even sniff the caterpillars, which is enough to cause lesions.

Clinical signs of these unwanted encounters will vary depending on which part of your pets’ body contacted with the caterpillars, but include:

➡ Excessive salivation

➡ Swelling of the lips, tongue and/or head

➡ Oral lesions

➡ Itching and agitation

➡ Difficulties breathing

➡ Vomiting
